What is meant by Metaverse?
The word "metaverse" is used in a broad sense to describe online communities where members, represented by avatars, engage in virtual interactions, often in three dimensions, with an emphasis on social and economic interaction (Wired, 2023).
Although the idea of the
metaverse has been there for quite some time, it is only in the last few years
that it has started to get a lot of attention. The parent firm of Facebook
changed its name to Meta in 2021, shifting its emphasis from social media to
creating the metaverse. What we call Facebook's (or Meta's) impact on the
metaverse is the Facebook metaverse (Coursera, 2023). The metaverse is
essentially an online community where people may engage in virtual interactions
inside computer-generated settings. A number of industry insiders are
pessimistic about the future of technology and its potential to revolutionize
our daily lives via the metaverse.

What is Metaverse in HRM?
In human resources, the term "metaverse" describes the
incorporation of virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and other forms
of immersive technology into HR procedures and practices. The idea is to create
a digital setting where people can communicate, work, and cooperate virtually
(HRForecast, 2023).
Just over three-quarters of workers and forty-five percent
of businesses in the United States are considering workforce immersion,
according to a poll by ExpressVPN that surveyed 1,500 workers and 1,500
companies. Not only that, but 46% of workers and 66% of employers are equally
enthusiastic about the metaverse (ExpressVPN, 2022).
Application of Metaverse in HRM
Using the Metaverse opens up a lot of possibilities for HR
professionals, particularly in the areas of employee management, engagement,
and experience, both inside and between companies.
Recruitment and hiring
By holding virtual job fairs and recruitment events in the
metaverse, businesses will have a global talent pool at their fingertips.
Businesses will no longer be constrained by location when searching for
qualified people, which might improve their hiring process.
Employers may be able to conduct more complete applicant
evaluations in the metaverse, which is another possible advantage. A good
example would be for businesses to model the duties of a position in a computer
simulation and then see how applicants do. Hiring the wrong person for the
position is something that this might assist to lessen.
Learning and Development
There may be new
opportunities for staff growth and training in the metaverse as well. Workers
may improve their abilities and get constructive criticism in a risk-free
virtual environment that mimics real-world situations. Jobs in the medical or
engineering fields, which often include physical labour, may benefit greatly
from this.
Performance Management
Businesses might build virtual performance management systems in
the metaverse to monitor staff output and provide immediate comments. This has
the ability to boost morale and productivity by making it easier for managers
to see and fix performance problems earlier.
Remote Work
Potentially revolutionizing remote work, the metaverse has a
profound effect on human resources. Virtual offices and meeting places provide
a more immersive and natural alternative to standard video conferencing solutions,
allowing workers to collaborate and interact in a more natural manner.

is revolutionary in nature, as the metaverse has the ability to radically alter
the way we conduct our work. Human resources departments may help their
